I Like This Picasso Vase (2016)

I Like This Picasso Vase is an attempt by Shirt to make a copy of Picasso's 1948 sculpture Vase: Woman. The title references lyrics from a song Shirt made and released in 2015, "Live If You Can," where he rapped, “I like this Picasso Vase, can’t buy it, might make it.” Years before making the work, Shirt had become interested in the striped sculpture, first saving photos found online and later seeking it out in person at the Museum of Modern Art around 2014. When he moved to Basel, Switzerland for his MFA and found a pottery studio available to him, making this vase was the first thing he decided to do. All details were followed as exactly as Shirt could determine from research and studying the original. The one notable difference is that the vase, shaped like a woman's body from neckline to base, has a bigger butt.
