Lo barato sale caro (2026)

"Lo barato sale caro" translates from Spanish to mean “cheap things cost you more in the end.” The phrase was something Shirt's grandmother told him two years before she passed at ninety nine, and he wrote it down. In 2026 the artist used the phrase as the title for this work, part of a series of ongoing sculptures and wall works that use Amazon packing paper and materials that have been saved in the studio over time. In this work, Shirt began by using rope to tie the packing paper to a small canvas he saved for many years. Two pieces of reclaimed wood, also saved for years, were then added to the structure. All elements have been glued, taped, and tied together to form one fixed wall sculpture.
